Nishtha Gandhi_MLP012_Emotional Intelligence_Oct 2012

“All the world is a stage and we are mere actors” while acting our own roles we forget who we are? What do we stand for? What do we care about? We just keep on acting like a machine, aping others doing what the society wants us to do irrespective of the fact that we enjoy it or not, like it or not.
Today’s session on emotional intelligence gave me a deep insight on knowing myself better that it is more about self awareness and interpersonal-listen and understand then relate and build trust. Emotional intelligence is not inherited (genetically) rather it’s completely acquired and is based on the nurture and upbringing. It can be easily changed and acquired depending on the willingness of the person.
To know emotional intelligence in a better way we did a lot of exercises one of them was ego and alter-ego from this exercise I learnt that
·         Many-times there are hidden meaning in what a person is saying which most of time is due to the past experiences.
·         Facial expressions should be observed as words are not everything.
·         It is difficult to find/read the hidden meaning behind what a person says.
In one of the exercises I also observed that when we are talking about our near and dear ones our eyes speaks more than the words and all kind of emotions like respect, loneliness, happiness, sadness, joy can be seen in our eyes.
“What you give is what you get” the same way life is cycle of happiness, sorrows and joys. These sorrows give regrets and disappointment in life which always remains within us as guilt. Thus one should have a person in your life to whom you confined and can let go of all your regrets and disappointment.
Thus I would conclude by saying:

 Life is short
Break the rules,
Forgive quickly
Love truly
Laugh unconditionally
And
Never regret anything that made u smile….:)
Live in each and every moment

If there is darkness in your life then one should realize that happiness is just round the corner.one can not have sorrows in one’s life  forever.
The small kid wants to study but non of the acharya(teacher) accepts him as a student because he is not a bharamcharya or kshatriya. the willpower of the child was so strong that he would go to each and every teacher and ask if he could be their student. One day he ask his mother that why do teachers reject me to be their students and the reply was that” do not give up your hope sooner or later you will find a teacher for yourself” which gave him the determination and energy to find an acharya for himself as soon as he got to know that the gautam acharya is coming. He goes to him and the acharya agrees to be his teacher only on the condition that he should go to his mother and ask about his kul and the gotra. when the child went back to the acharya saying that he does not know his kul or gotra as his mother has helped lots of people the acharya accepts him as a student by saying that the mother had the truth to tell and not everyone has the guts to tell the truth though a lot of acharya retaliated that he should not get education but gautam acharya said that the truth is everything. One should introspect everyday and ask questions which themselves would have answers.
Key learnings:
·         one should have the will power ,dedication and the focus in whatever you do.
·         You should never lose your hope
·         Always speak the truth
·         Introspect everyday
·         Keep on asking questions to yourself
·         Darkness cannot be in your life forever

Nishtha Gandhi_MLP012_Self Leadership_May 2012

Todays session helped me learn that not only words but there are other way to communicate through others such as your eyes, gestures lip movement are some examples. One can always lie when talking but our eye can never lie and can speak more powerfully than the words as one can connect to the other person. When we were given this exercise to narrate an incidence in your life through your eyes to one of your friends and vise a versa. I felt is this possible how can I make the other person understand my situation only through eye but after the exercise I was amazed to see the results and I felt like WOW!!! Even I can express myself with my eyes and the use of gestures to complete the story. Plus after narrating the story I felt relaxed  One should always remember that many times word are not necessary to communicate but our eyes gesture and the touch of our skin also play a very important role in communication. Hugging a friend, hand shake with a colleague these kind of small small gestures are very important to be an inspired leader. I also learnt that when you have an eye contact with the person you not only give positive vibes but also see that the other person the listener is paying full attention what the narrator is narrating.
A great leader should have all the traits of communicating through eyes, They should visualize and be ready with a back up. The observation power should be high.

Self Leadership
There are 6 layers of consciousness which helps in channelizing our thought and making decisions. The inner most layer is I which is our pure consciousness. All the energy to perform or to complete a task comes from this I. this is our inner voice which keeps on helping us to take a decision or tells us how to react in a situation. Then comes ego, just feeds you habits and make these habits a part of your life. Ego does not let you change your habits. Even after knowing to ourselves that we need to change Ego would not let us change our habits. Ego layer is followed by the layer of intellect, which is the pillar of ethics. Intellect is basically I know it. The gap of knowing doing is bridged by this layer. At this level the person not only has understanding about a subject/situation but also knows the subject/situation fluently and can take a valid action. There after comes the Emotional layer in India this is the mind and in foreign it is the heart. This is the layer where one connects with the other. If I am emotionally attached to my mother I would surely listen to her advice/suggestion and would implement it. I would feel/ regard her a lot. This connection can be inspirational and can take you to a different height or on the contrary can be very dangerous also if not used in a proper manner. this layer shows different moods of an individual such as anger, attachment, envy etc. Emotional layer is also a pillar of compassion. Next comes the layer of instinct. The instincts can be from your past lives. These instincts are the first reaction to the situation which is not always right thus one should always take their time and then respond to a situation this gives you knowledge , information, understanding but how do you use this information makes you a leader. And the most outermost layer is the layer of our 5 senses that is observation listening, touch, smell, taste.these are the senses which are very essential to be a leader. This is the perpetual intelligence helps in making great leader.
My key learning’s
·         It all depends on our thoughts and ourselvesthat how do we channelize our thoughts, how we want to live?to admit our mistakes or to hide them.
·         The art of helping other or giving selflessly would make you or keep you always happy so try to give happiness to others without asking anything in return because if one needs anything in favour then it becomes a transaction of give and take. Thus one should always give happiness selflessly and not for any vested interests
·         We should take responsibility of our own work even in teams, if we have made a mistake accept it and try to find a solution to rectify it as well as anayse the condition and try to find why and where did you go wrong.make sure that next time the same ggf-up does not happen.
·         Keep your instincts in mind but then give a responsible reponse.do not just come to conclusions.
·         We should reflect/introspect ourselves everyday and look into our learning, mistakes and appreciations so that we know our strong points and our developmental areas.
