Happiness-Self Leadership-Arun Kumar_BLP034

Happiness is your birth right. We brought happiness to this word when we were born and it’s our duty to spread happiness till we leave this world. Happiness multiplies when it is shared with others. Festivals are occasions to celebrate and share the joy and spread the happiness. He is responsible for ones happiness but happiness is not always an individual entity.

Happiness is what all humans seek. It is more important than may be money, health or relationships. It is the greatest gift in life, because when we are happy, everyone around us is happy, and we attract positive energy into our lives. So, here if we try to find satisfaction or even define satisfaction, it again is different for different persons and differs from task to task. So satisfaction is a relative word. For example we can get satisfied with a piece of chocolate cake but again if we get a delicious piece of mango cake our satisfaction towards the chocolate will decrease.

Our nature is always to seek happiness, even a man hanging himself in some way want to reduce the pain in his life. If we go by literature, some people say that only remembering the past brought happiness to them, some said that living in the present and forgetting the past and the future brought them happiness. This led Henry Begson, a French Philosopher to say that how to get happiness has been left in vague, so that each one can have his own definition. But if happiness is to determine every moment of our life we must be able to know what it actually is. Some people confuse happiness with pleasure. Pleasure depends on the time, the object, the place.

There are three forms of happiness as explained by Martin Seligman: Pleasant life, Good life and Meaningful life were thoroughly explained as below.

1) Pleasant Life- This talks about having as many pleasures as possible and having the skills to amplify the pleasures.

2) Good Life- This means knowing what your signature strengths are, and then recrafting your work, love, friendship, leisure and parenting to use those strengths to have more flow in life. A good life essentially means living your dreams and passions.

3) Meaningful Life- It is one which consists of using your signature strengths in the service of something that you believe is larger than you are. Understanding the purpose of one’s existence to serve mankind is the underlying thinking of a meaningful life.

Any common man must be fortunate to listen to the speech on ‘Self Leadership’ from Mr Anil Sachdev, the inspired leader. I usually find it tough to get the crux of his speech as it has many deep thoughts in it and powerful as well. I should say I was unable to attend his second session on Self Leadership as I was away to represent SOIL in an event organised by AIMA on that day. I am writing this with whatever little I have heard from my friends.

The class started with paying our regards for our friends Rahul Thind & Gaurav Arora, who are not with us anymore. Mr Anil helped us to let our emotions out and get relaxed from the sorrows to pay attention to his lecture.

The session was based on Appreciative Enquiry (AI) relatively a new term for most of us before joining this esteemed institute. AI is the buzz word at SOIL these days. The students were paired up with the fellow students and given the first hand experience of AI. I was interested more in knowing the good things that comes in life due to AI. The pair was told to paraphrase their partner’s answers. The answers were documented and categorised in two parts, so as to know the positive attributes of both the individuals and SOIL as an entity. The bigger picture on the purpose of the activities done at SOIL can be understood once t is done and that’s the beauty of it.

In a nutshell AI generates a positive energy in and around the participant and helps them to have positivity in all the deeds and actions. The energy gives happiness and confidence. When AI is applied in the industry it will increase the working potential of the employees and make them work in a synergy. I would like to exercise AI in my team at work to see the improvement in the output.

At the end the class concluded by putting our thoughts together and sharing them with each other, in our auspicious circle, which we believe is a unique and interesting way to share our thoughts and feelings with each other, and where the holding of hands signifies and provides the amount of trust required doing so.

Successful leaders will always be punctual, nevertheless to say that our Guru Anil Sachdev the disciple of  Swami Chinmayananda was in the class even before we reached from the morning prayer hall.

I am very new to blogging and my scribbling follows….

Today I have learnt that to become a successful and complete leader one must possess/ inculcate  Observing, Listening and Reflecting skills with in him.

The workshop started with some questions like “Do I have a vision”, “Am I well organised to towards my vision”, “Am I enough confident and Enthusiastic towards my vision” and “Am I a good team player” appeared before me in the process of questing myself to be a lead.

“What kind of human am I if I am not able to bring in the change I feel like with all my senses and power”, “Am I following my Consciousness” were the other interesting questions from my friends.

Per Peter F. Drucker we remember anything that we see as picture than that we read or listen and hence the Observing, Listening and Expression through touching concepts were clearly explained by different practical exercises that we understand their importance and also remember them through our life.

Concept like “6 layers of Self” was very useful, which insists that Brain, Emotions, Instinct, Senses, Body and Mind are just objects and they should not directly impact the decisions we make. Our Soul is the subject and the owner of the above things.

Some statements that I remember and can take it throughout the life are “Don’t allow your instinct to react to the information from the data”, “Reacting is not Leadership, Responding is Leadership”, “An Altar Ego will Alter your life”.

Apart from some serious discussions on Self Leadership I felt a touch of Positive Energy flow and Spiritualism in the workshop.
Here by I complete my second blog in my life time.. Hurray!

Regards,
Arun
