The session on Self Leadership on 26th October was about the Brain, how
we take decisions, Creativity and ended with our personal Mission
Statement.
The left side of our brain is responsible for grasping complexity and
the right part for our creative ability. Together the Brain takes certain
decisions. The session gave us an important framework for taking decisions:
- Defining
the frame - Most critical question
- Collect meaningful and
reliable information
- Define several creative and
doable objectives
- Logic for evaluation (Risk
and return )
- Values & trade
off’s
- Looking at implementation
The next topic of discussion was the creativity of the brain. Before
this session, I believed that everyone has a certain level of creativity that
is inherited. But this session gave me a new insight. One's Creativity depends
on how liberal or conservative was one's upbringing and education. This
creativity is not static, it can be built and I am sure that my creativity is
definitely going to increase a lot by the time I graduate from SOIL. :)
The next part of the session was the most
fun-filled and made us explore our creativity to the maximum. We formed groups
of three, four and even seven and formed ourselves in different shapes
like fountain, bow and arrow, nursery rhyme, waterfall and even booming
sunflowers. We thought of multiple uses of things like A Pen. We also found
similarities between a roaring fire and a cat and found solutions to end the
fire.
These types of creativity
can be categorized as:
-
Ideational fluency
-
Originality Of Thinking
-
Associational Fluency
-
Learning from Analogy
There are certain fears that restrict us from getting
creative:
-
Fear of Failure
-
Fear of Criticism
-
Fear of Ambiguity
-
Lack of Time & Resources
-
Loss of Self Image
From the above discussions on Creativity, I learnt the
following:
1.
Creativity of many can be combined to create things
that we would never have imagined.
-
You have to be a little crazy to show your creativity at its
best
-
To be creative, you have to let go of yourself and your
inhibitions
-
Creativity can be created and learnt
-
You should not think about what would be the reaction of
people around you before trying to be creative
The last talk was on
forming our personal mission statement. It was a very powerful activity and the
video attached will be a reminder for us to take every step keeping our
personal mission statement as our final goal in life.
