Appreciative Enquiry_Pravin M Gayakwad_BLP 018_Snehal Mam Session_Sep 2012

Appreciative Inquiry is the cooperative search for the best in people, their organizations, and the world around them. It involves systematic discover of what gives a system ‘life’ when it is most effective and capable in economic, ecological, and human terms. AI involves the art and practice of asking questions that strengthen a system’s capacity to heighten positive potential. It mobilizes inquiry through crafting an “unconditional positive question’ often involving hundreds or sometimes thousands of people.”
Appreciative enquiry……..the first question arises in my mind that why it is needed & is it right to appreciate some stranger whom you don’t know, but as the class of Snehal Mam progressed I realize the fact that it is the necessity of today’s competitive business as people management is the biggest challenge every organization is facing & to gain their trust and support it’s important to respect, recognize, and value them. I come to understand that the purpose behind the appreciative enquiry is to make happy. It is the process of undertaking change in ourselves & in overall system by generating process of understanding what best is in the system.
Session on appreciative enquiry starts with milling game, which was consist of four rounds and at the end of each round each one of us had to ask one question to each other. My first partner was Devendra and he said that for him appreciative enquiry is important to recognize the efforts & positives of others, which actually provided the platform to understand the different perspectives of AI. It followed by second round with the question related to experience of appreciative enquiry & my partner was Amit Singh. He said that when he did AI with one of the colleague, he experience the positive vibration. The appreciative enquiry was so energetic that makes both of them happy & I personally felt the long term impact of AI when he was sharing his experience. Third round of tough question and that was related to demerits of AI…My third partner Moniraj said that how can we appreciate the stranger whom we don’t know, as per his opinion it’s very important to understand each other in order to do right appreciation, but at the same time he felt that AI gives that platform to initiate new relationship and that’s what important.
I strongly feel that session on the AI was great forum to get clarity about the appreciation process & to understand its uniqueness. Enquiry is required to seek understanding by asking question and appreciation process is important to value and recognize with gratitude others. I learnt that appreciative enquiry help us to understand the “best of what is” in an organization or in social system, which is used to create envisioned & grounded. I personally believe that God Ganesha is the best energizer for developing positivity inside the human body and I am very happy that the session on AI happened on Ganesh Utsav. Ganesh Ji through AI taught us that we should not only appreciate but also respect & value the efforts of our parents, which they put behind us without any expectations. I feel that respecting our parents is the biggest appreciative enquiry, which we should not forget and that is what the real meaning of life for all of us.
I understand that brain has two sides’ positive & negative so when negative emotion enriched in mind, people start thinking negative which actually decreased the positive side of person and ultimately we forget to appreciate others. I was enough fortunate to have the session on AI, which was real eye opener.
Appreciative Inquiry focuses us on the positive aspects of our lives and leverages them to correct the negative. It’s the opposite of ‘problem-solving.”
