It is a stated fact that happiness is the need of all the living creatures and all of them are afraid of pain and grief. But the desire for happiness has no meaning without understanding the real nature of happiness.  For most of the human beings happiness is the way of satisfying sensual pleasures i.e. any pleasure that they feel will please their senses. By large observation and studying what human behavior is, I could assume that most of the human beings spend a major part of his/her life in chasing these pleasures. These people are the ones who do not know the actual meaning of “What is Happiness”. The reason is simple. According to them the happiness would be when you will have good/nutritious food to eat, good clothes to wear and descent houses to put up. And everyone believes that sooner or later they will achieve this, which is the reason they work hard in life. But the ultimate question remains, even after having all these benefits, will they be happy? If yes, then why are the people already having these facilities not happy? I would say a big reason is that they have fail to understand the meaning of happiness completely.
Many people say that happiness is achieved when you get your desires satisfied which I feel is not possible in case of human beings. All of us have a tendency to chase our dreams rather to put it in a better way, to get our desires fulfilled. Now in this process we forget every other thing and focus on one factor only i.e. how could we achieve these desires satisfaction? Now as we attain these desires, our satisfaction level should get satisfied as per the discussion. But in reality this does not happen. The reason is because the human nature develops new desires now. Therefore, we could conclude by this that there is no level to satisfaction when it comes to satisfying our desires as they keep on building every time as some of them get satisfied. Hence I feel it is wrong to say that desires die out after its fulfillment or attaining them should be regarded as happiness. The explanation to this is absence of desires does not mean their satisfaction, but their absolute absence.
Infact I would like to share that pleasure arising out of several joys are not happiness as they lead to restlessness, curiosity, anxiety which sometimes give rise to situations which result in grief or pain. Happiness is directly related to peace of mind. It is not something which could be imposed on you. So in that sense happiness is not just sensual pleasure only. I believe that happiness could be achieved if there is peace in the soul something that we call psychic bliss. It is above sensual pleasures and it cannot be imposed. Just as the soul, being psychic, cannot be achieved with the help of the senses; non-sensory happiness, being in the nature of the soul, cannot be obtained with the help of the senses.
Let me explain this through an example. For me happiness is when I see others are happy because of me. If I am able to contribute to the happiness of others, in any way, I feel ecstatic about that. This in particular is the ultimate peace of mind and soul I aspire for. And this does not limit me to any specific set of people. It could be anyone. From a rickshaw driver to a business man, from a shopkeeper to a teacher, my friends, my family and all the people around me, if a feel they smile because of me, I find happiness in this activity which is certainly not just the sensory pleasure.
If all the people understand the true meaning of happiness I feel people will be more than they pretend to be. Rather I feel in today`s era people are unaware of the fact that they could even increase their level of happiness. All we need to do is find a thing that connects our heart to our soul and imparts us happiness which is above sensory pleasures. For getting real happiness, we have to see within, to know our own being, for our happiness lies in ourselves. The soul is a depository of eternal bliss, full of everlasting joy. Therefore, those, in pursuit of happiness should turn their efforts towards their inner beings. Those looking for happiness elsewhere will never get it.

Real happiness is a matter of experience, not of speech, not of demonstration. It can be had only by being introvert, cutting ourselves from all the non-self entities and being one with our soul itself. Since the soul is full of happiness, experience of the soul is the experience of happiness. Just as one cannot achieve the soul without experience, in the same manner one cannot get real happiness without the experience of the soul.
