Suveer_BLP021_happiness

One dictionary defines "Happiness" as indicative of pleasure, contentment or joy.The question is what is it exactly that gives us pleasure or contentment. Is it relative as well. There is no fixed formula or process to achieve happiness. It will vary from person to person and situation to situation.Happiness is the undying quest of life,an unquenchable thirst and insatiable hunger of mankind. This is what we all seek for but can such a bliss be nothing but just an elusive state of mind. Can it be attained for a lifetime?
Happiness lies deep within us and not in any external object.Though we seem to derive happiness from external objects,we don't realize that happiness so enjoyed in fact arises from us as well.Happiness is thus a state of being –in which there is no disturbance inside our mind. The activity of our mind disturbs it from its calm state of just being, and in process takes us away from happiness.
Not only does happiness exist within us, it is in fact our true nature. The transient happiness that we seem to derive from external experiences, but which actually arises only from within our self, is in reality nothing other than our own essential being. The more clearly we are conscious of our own essential being, the more deeply and intensely do we experience happiness.

Bhagwan Sri Ramana states that degree of happiness that we experience at any moment is directly proportionate to the degree of clarity with which we are then conscious of our true and essential being. Therefore happiness is not only our essential being, but is also our consciousness of our being. In other words, our essential being is consciousness, or more precisely it is self-consciousness.
Mind has extra-ordinary powers and as far as happiness is concerned it has the ultimate power.  We should, therefore, have a positive attitude towards life.  Instead of concentrating on bad things in life and people, we should concentrate on redeeming features in them.  We should not keep on thinking about past failures and bad experiences but be encouraged by our past success and good experiences.  Similarly, we should not be unduly anxious about future as our anxiety is not going to have a positive effect, but we should plan and work hard for the future.
Thus ,happiness can be derived from anything and anytime provided one is conscious of his own being and conscious of the fact that why is he doing what he is doing. It is difficult to control what controls you but once its done, happiness will follow
