Self Leadership class (16th Oct & 23rd Oct)
The session started with brief description of the five layers of self realization which were taught in the earlier sessions. We were asked to This session covered the understanding of “Power of intellect” wherein decision making framework was first discussed. Based on the research, it was advised that every individual/group should follow certain processes before taking any decision & the processes were:
1.     To understand “what is the most important question”
2.     Collect meaningful and reliable information in the context of the question
3.     Define several creative and double alternatives
4.     Define the logic for evaluation- Risk & Return associated with the decisions
5.     Values and tradeoffs – To come to a conclusion
6.     Looking at implementation of the decision
We were encouraged to see Upanishad Ganga in TV every Sunday or watch it in YouTube. Anil Sir told us that everyone should have a better understanding of Upanishad because it illustrates the sacred relationship between a Guru & student.  We were then encouraged to perform an activity with a partner wherein we had to identify our career objective based on the decision framework & the options given were: Job, to start a business, Hold yourself for sometime & do nothing. We also had to discuss the whys of our course of action & the exercise forced everyone to look deep hard into oneself to acknowledge their goal of the life.
Then next exercise was carried out wherein there was a matrix drawn & we were asked to rate ourselves. The matrix drawn was showing a comparison between type of education received and kind of upbringing experienced.  Later on, we were taught the aspects of creativity & explained the power of ideation fluency, originality of thinking and associational fluency. “The Fourth Eye” by Pradip Khandwallla- we had a brief discussion on this book & in this context, we were asked to introspect and realize the fear that lies within an individual. Based on the fear, we had to rate oneself on the scale of 1 to 10 to different questions (which certainly gives us the fear quotient). Learning based out of this exercise was to understand our own fear and the comprehensive techniques to get rid of that. Awareness was the prominent factor considered to overcome our own fear. Continuing with, we were asked to devote some time to think about our mission & values of our lives with a series of questions that surely helped each one of us to get a better clarity on our future goals & objectives.
Finally when the session was approaching to an end, we got introduced with the wonderful concept of “Ladder of Inference” based on the Peter Sengi’s work which helped us to create better understanding of the way one thinks & the perception one makes around that thinking.
23rd Oct’2012
This session on Self Leadership started with the definition of “Courage”. We were asked to form a team & discuss on the table citing the examples of the courage we have seen in our life by an individual. Where from the courage stimulates? And we came up with various views such as: it originates from a cause we are fighting for, it comes from the passion, it comes from the selflessness, and opportunity to take on big responsibility, courage is not absence of fear but a realization / judgement of cause more important than fear & many more. We were then shown a video on happiness & to share our learning’s. It was about Matthew Richard view on happiness wherein he talked about attaining happiness. He also showed economists views on happiness. How the happiness index in US has gone down over the decades though the average family income has soared up. He also mentioned the Gross happiness Index (GHI) which is being followed only in Bhutan.
In the End, he talked about the concept to Immunity X-ray, a tool to get rid of oneself fear.
