Every session on self leadership with Anil sir is a journey
in itself. It’s about discovering and learning to honor our unique gifts and
strengths. In this particular session we got to learn about the importance of
emotional intelligence. As rightly said that our intellectual ability can help
us succeed only to a particular level, beyond that it’s all about emotional
intelligence. Emotional intelligence is something which can’t be inherited, but
gets build up through our upbringing and the encounters we have with our
surroundings.
We also learned about the importance of deep listening,
through an interesting exercise. It’s very important to keep our ego aside and
listen deeply to understand what the speaker intends to say. Many times a speaker’s
message is perceived differently by the listener. Thus it is not only about the
listener, even the speaker should be mindful about how he communicates.
Finally we ended the session learning about the art of
community building and its importance through an activity, where we had to
share about our unstated emotional expectation and any past regret within a
small group. Initially we all were hesitating to talk about our past lives, but
gradually we trusted each other and through the art of deep listening we
encouraged everyone to share about their guilt and regrets, which brought in
a sense of love and belongingness for each other. I guess that is what
community building is all about-trust and love. Above all I learned that it is
very important to honor and leverage our gifts to work continuously for a
cause.
