Self Leadership Session - Oct'2012
Our 3rd session on self leadership focussed
primarily on the “Power of Intellect”. Anil Sir first started with the brief
description of five layers of self realization which were taught in the earlier
sessions. The session then started with wisdom of Upanishad which talks about
the sacred relationship between Guru & student, how one can learn the ways
to live a meaningful life. Sir suggested us to watch Upanishad on TV & in
through any media to learn & understand its value.
When the discussion on power of intellect started, sir
taught us the process involved in the decision making framework .Based on
research, the process involved six steps namely:
1.
To understand what is the most important question? (which is asked
before any task – answer to this question is ‘defining the frame’)
2.
Collect meaningful and reliable information
3.
Define several creative and double alternatives
4.
Define the logic for evaluation (risk & return)
5.
Values and trade offs
6.
Looking at implementation
After discussing the decision framework, we were encouraged
to think about our career objective individually. Sir then started with
discussion on creativity & innovation. There are people who have amazing
creativity & there are people who lack in creativity & innovation as
well. However creativity & innovation are inbuilt & we can be creative
if we maintain proper connection between mind & soul. We also had a
discussion on wonderful book “The fourth eye” by Pradip Khandwalla & we
were asked to introspect our self & understand the fear residing within. We were given some question & asked to
give a rating on the scale of 1-(to calculate the fear quotient). The learning
behind completing this exercise was to acknowledge our fear & how to
overcome this.
Sir then asked everyone to think about the value and mission
of life through various questions. The questionnaire helped us to get a better
clarity on our future goals.
At last sir introduced us with the concept of Ladder of
inference which talks about the perception of an individual, the way an individual
thinks & creates a perception around that thinking.
Our 4th session on Self leadership started with the
definition of Courage. We were asked to form a team & discuss the examples
of courage shown by an individual in our real lives or any story we have heard
of wherein an individual has displayed courage for a cause. Sir cited a real
life example of courage by TATA group where they took the matter to the PM
Manmohan Singh to fight for a cause. We were then shown a video of Mathew
Richard view on happiness. The video talked about attaining the happiness &
we were asked to share our learning. He also discussed the economists view on
happiness. We discussed the relationship between money & happiness. Sir
took the example of US where the annual family income has increased over the
decade however the happiness index has gone down. We also discussed the
powerful tool ‘meditation’ that can help us to control our mind &
strengthen our thoughts.
Sir also talked about the power of “Unconditional love” with examples
such as love between a mother & a child, Mother Teresa’s love for the
society.
At last he told us about the” Immunity X-ray”, a tool used to overcome
our fears.
