Nitin Gupta_MLP015_Self Leadership_Oct 2012

Self-leadership class by Anil sir was a great learning experience for me about the Emotional mind. This part of brain contains Emotional Intelligence which controls human emotions. To be a leader you should be emotionally strong and respect others emotions.
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups. It is the impact on individual’s upbringing and acquired by observing others around us like family members, friends, teachers etc. Emotional Intelligence is much more important than intellectual Intelligence as leadership is more about Emotional Intelligence. It is about Self-awareness and Interpersonal relations. Self-awareness is about knowing your impact on others and Interpersonal is two dimensional i.e. listen and understand, relate and build trust. As a leader building trust is very important, this can be done by deep listening (listen very carefully) to others and understanding what they are trying to say, what they think about the topic and what are their views. When we communicate with others it is not only limited to the words we speak, it flows through our expressions, our body posture, the hand movement, the pitch. That is where the importance of emotional intelligence gets highlighted. We need to be wary how we communicate and the effectiveness of communication.
Emotional intelligence is an art of identifying, assessing and controlling the emotions of ourselves, others or a group of people.
Before we analyse others, let’s master our own emotions. Let’s discover, what makes me the person I am. You can master yourself by:

·         Honour your uniqueness
·         Find a cause that gives you joy and satisfaction
·         Leverage your gifts and uniqueness to work on that cause
·         Share joy and accomplishment with others
·         Enable others to do the above four in their lives

Be a giver, and do it with joy and selflessness you will be surprised by what you get. In my view, the thought or the greed to see what you receive from what you give should not exist. When you think you will get something out of an act, you are greedy already. So give thoughtlessly as well. This is unconditional love which makes others felt like they are very important to you and to the world.
