Anuj Budhiraja_BLP051_Self Leadership_September 2012

Yesterday self leadership session of Anil’s sir was very inspiring. He started with the session about the video of a girl in which the girl had lost her close friend and she created a wall in which she had written “Before I die” and left many blanks. So slowly people started writing about the dreams they want to achieve they want to die and it became popular thing in other countries also. Then he introduced the importance of emotional quotient (EQ) and appreciative enquiry.
Emotional Intelligence as the word suggests is to control your emotions. So in the class as taught as sir is that it can usually acquired early in life through education & upbringing, it can’t be created in one day .It is further enhanced through the ability to listen which we are not used to in real life. We should always appreciate other’s and spread happiness to other’s  . We did the appreciative enquiry among ourselves and bring out the best out of each other .In real life we always think that we haven’t got this , how we can achieve and if somebody succeed or fair well than we crib and start questioning them . How he/she had done that particular thing and we are lagging behind. So we start doing appreciative enquiry and always appreciate other’s in any form of life.
In the session we discussed and share the feelings about what had happened to Gaurav and Rahul. So everybody shared the thoughts and their were mixed feelings for them. Another session was about the difference between empathy and sympathy where sir showcased the difference by the shoe example. , In which he told us that just like you cannot wear anybody’s shoes without removing yours, same thing happens when don’t try to understand one’s emotion. We should always take the hat of the person who is expressing rather than putting our own hat.
Then there was another session on happiness where shared our views why we are happy or whom we are with in this world. The class formed circles to express what they felt after last week’s crisis (losing our class mates) and performed individual exercises on happiness – things that deprive us of happiness are following:
-          Unstated emotional expectations of those I care
-          Regrets about the past
-          Guilt that I carry with me
