Gaurav_Arora_BLP044_Self Leadership_May 2012

So, What are the essential qualities of an inspired leader?
He has a vision and a plan to achieve that vision.
He’s able to lead a team towards a common goal.
He communicates effectively and leads by example.
And a few more things which came to my mind everytime I heard the word leader but today, after Anil Sir’s lecture on self leadership, I came to know about a lot of basic things without which a leader can’t be successful.
It all started with a question which perhaps we never thought about :
What is the most important question you need to ask yourselves to be a self leader?
There were a lot of good answers, for me it was – Whether I am going in the right direction or not?
Then we learned about the six layers of Self :
·         Body / 5 Senses – Recieves data
·         Instinct / Reaction – which converts the data into information
·         Relationship / Emotions / Mind
·         Intellect
·         Ego / Habits
·         Life giving force
What I learned the most through this was that one should not react with instinct, it can be wrong. As said by Anil Sir :
“Don’t react, always respond”
Then we learned about the three powers a leader should posses :
·         Power of Observing
·         Listening
·         And Communicating through touch
An effective leader should be able to interpret the needs of his/her peers by looking into their eyes only and also should be able to communicate what is required from peers through eyes and gestures only.
Further he should be a good listner. One should not just listen to the words a person is saying but should infer the real meaning of those words, what they imply.
And finally, Communicating one’s feeling through touch is a great quality a leader should have.
In the end I would like to summarize all of this by saying that one needs to have these qualities apart from the ability to plan and execute to be an inspired leader.
