Nikhil Arora_MLP010_Self Leadership_May 2012

Today we had another enthralling session with Prof Anil Sachdev and we moved a step closer to attain what we call as the “Self-Leadership”. The class was mainly divided into a series of events and activities which went through in order to accomplish the goal of knowing oneself.
The main focus of the session was to know how our sensory organs play a vital role in expressing our feelings. The eyes, nose, lips, ears all have very unique and distinguished roles in functioning in our body but the ultimate aim is to convey our idea to everyone.
To kick start the session we had an activity wherein pairs were made and the two persons had to interact with each other and convey their message initially only through eyes, followed by eyes and gestures and finally by using hands, eyes and lip movement. It was one of the most powerful activities as it made me realise that not every time words are needed to express one’s feelings. Eyes play a crucial role in expression and the best part is that they don’t lie. I was very much moved with this whole task and got a great learning that in order to understand someone’s feeling we need to connect to our inner self and this in turn allows us to have a deeper understanding of such thoughts.
Another activity that was on “Power of Listening” which really helped me to know how powerful this tool of listening is and in order to be a successful leader one must be good listener. In any interaction the power always lies with the listener and in a much similar manner when we consider Leadership the power always lie with the follower and not with the leader.
To conclude I can say that our aim in life should be to find knowledge and wisdom which will help us fight our own demons and give us strength to overcome our limitations and become more aware of our surroundings and spread love and happiness all around.
