Today we had our first session at SOIL and we started our day by a session on "Self Leadership" by Anil Sachdev. We introspected our self on a question that would help us lead a life in a better way. The question that i asked myself is "what is the core purpose of my life and what path I will be choosing to achieve my purpose?". Whether I will do a MBA, get settle in life and waste it or will i really do something that will help me in transforming the life of others. This exercise reminded of a famous quote by John F. Kennedy, "Ask not what a country can do for you, ask what you can do for the country".
As day progressed I understood that "I" is not a body but its a soul which is the owner of a body and thus body is just an object and "I" which is the soul is the driving force behind the affairs of the Body. And thus we came across the six layers of "Self". The six layers, starting from top to the core, are as follows:
1. Body/5senses/perception
2. Instinct/Reaction
3. Relationship/Emotions
4. Intellects/Choices
5. Ego/Values
6. Life giving force
Then we went on to understand the power of
communicating through eyes, power of Listening and power of touch.
We learned that in a healthy conversation eyes speak more than anything else. Also its quality of a leader to read one's mind through their eyes. A good leader must also be a good listener. By being a good listener he also en-bides a sense of confidence in the speaker who gets a feeling of being heard. And then we understood the power of communicating through touch. It gives a person the feeling of being cared. Touch certainly connects people more emotionally. We also under went a exercise where we had to hug as many people possible.
To be a inspired leader its important to demonstrate all the three powers of communication.
Thanks
Vivek
